The first documented meeting of the Todd County Board of Health was on October 10, 1904. Serving on the board at the time were Dr. L.P. Traber (appointed County Health Officer), H.C Miller, and P.O. Duffy, all of Elkton, Dr. J.M. Robinson of Guthrie (elected Chairman of the Board), and Dr. W.S. Petrie of Fairview.
In the early years, meetings detailed quarantines of smallpox cases. In subsequent years, meetings discussed additional communicable diseases, sanitation, immunizations, and education.
Historically, the Board of Health drives the direction of the health department. The Board employs one staff person, the Public Health Director. All other staff are hired under the Kentucky Merit System or as contract employees by the Public Health Director.
The health department was located at 205 McReynolds street beginning in 1980. An addition was built in approximately 1991. Previous locations of the health department included 201 North Main Street, 108 South Main Street, and a house on Allensville St.
