If you're building a new home or business that will not have access to city sewer, you are REQUIRED to have an onsite sewage disposal system. These are regulated and inspected by the health department.
Before your facility is constructed, a septic site evaluation must be completed (see below). We will determine the suitability of the soil.
When the property is deemed suitable for installation, a permit may be issued to a certified septic installer. Certified septic installers MUST bring a detailed drawing with grade shots into the inspector's office before a permit can be issued.
After installation is complete, a final inspection is conducted.
For Information on water meter and plumbing permits contact the State Plumbing Inspector: 502-234-8844
The State Plumbing Inspector is on-site at the health department Thursdays from 8AM to 9AM.
We will collect and test private water samples for bacteria (E. coli and total coliform bacteria).
Samples can be collected Monday through Friday.

The Health Department protects the community from foodborne illness by conducting food safety inspections.
Whether you're opening a new business or have been in business for years, the health inspector will conduct random inspections annually or biannually, depending on the facility.
This includes establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, temporary food concessions, vending machines and more!
If you are opening a new facility or remodeling an existing facility, you MUST submit plans and be approved by your local Health Environmentalist. Ask questions and gain more understanding of the process by contacting your local health department!
